Use old paperwork, addresses at filing, or case information to determine the county.

For Harris County, use the District Clerk civil/family search.

The Harris District Clerk FAQ directs first-time users to create an account, then choose Online Services → Search Our Records. Search by case number or party name, using the plaintiff field if you filed and the defendant field if the case was filed against you. Open the party-name result, select Images, open the image number for the decree, add that document to the basket and use Purchase Order to review and complete checkout.

A case number makes copy requests much more precise.

Use the court/clerk that actually holds the divorce file.

If the decree image is unavailable, or you need a particular certified format, contact the Harris clerk at 832-927-5800 or [email protected] before paying. The public search warns that family documents are not available through its public case-search view; an account or a case result does not guarantee access to every document.

If an uncontested Statement of Inability to Afford Payment of Court Costs is on file in that case, the FAQ says copies are available without charge under Rule 145. The website cannot supply that free-copy route: contact the clerk by the phone/email above or visit the office.
